About Us

Established in 2024, VHP Consulting Engineers represents the synergy of two trusted names: VHC Engineers in Victoria, and Prompt Engineering Western Australia.

VHC Engineers established in 1984 by founder Rob van Heusden and over the 40 years, VHC Engineers has built a reputation for integrity and accuracy, delivering cost-effective engineering solutions to the residential building industry without compromising on quality.

Prompt Engineering was established by Michael Young in 2009 and in 2012 Wilson Hui joined the company. Using custom designed systems and advanced technological solutions to deliver efficient and effective results, Prompt Engineering quickly developed a reputation as one of the cities foremost engineering firms. From there Prompt Engineering grew from an office under 10 to a team of over 35 dedicated professionals.

By combining our strengths, we’ve built a dynamic team of over 40 skilled professionals, specializing in innovative, cost effective and reliable residential structural solutions.

Rob van Heusden

Structural, Geotechnical and Forensic Engineer. Principal Engineer at VHP Consulting Engineers

Director and the founder of VHC Engineers since 1984, Rob graduated from Swinburne College of Technology in 1976 and has decades of experience as a multi-discipline engineer.

Wilson Hui

CEO and Director of Prompt Engineering and VHP Consulting Engineers

I take great pride in having built an organisation that is regarded as an industry leader in the field of residential engineering. Through our dedication to delivering efficient and value-driven engineering solutions, we have cultivated strong relationships with a diverse range of clients across multiple industries.

Arun Karunarathne

Senior Structural & Geotechnical Engineer

The uncertain nature of soil and structural interaction which makes the Engineer examine all possible scenarios and take appropriate risk to assure structural integrity. I completed PhD in Geotechnical Engineering at Swinburne in 2016, and joined VHC in 2017. This journey had brought me a wealth of knowledge and skill. Outside of work, I love unwinding with a good game of cricket—whether watching or discussing the finer details of the sport. The values that I always live by is Cause and Consequence, what a person does comes back to him or her.

Charlie Tse

Engineering Manager

After graduating and diving into my first year as a structural engineer in the residential sector, I discovered a profound passion for the intricate design aspects of house construction. This passion only intensified as I delved deeper into problem-solving for clients during both the design and construction phases. Off the clock, you’ll find me on the soccer field, where my love for the game has remained unwavering since the tender age of 10. Despite the years passing, my enthusiasm for soccer remains as strong as ever, keeping me active and engaged.

Alexander Gibbons

Senior Structural Engineer

I’ve always been curious about how things work, which led me to discover the design and construction processes behind them. The combination of creativity, technical, and problem-solving in engineering is what drew me to the field. Outside of work, I enjoy watching AFL and NBA, listening to music and podcasts, and occasionally playing golf, running, or a game of chess. I believe in accuracy, integrity, and teamwork—collaborating with colleagues and builders to find the best solutions. My goal is to deliver cost-effective designs without compromising quality.

Matthew Taylor

Structural Engineer

I became an engineer because I enjoyed drawing and was good at math in high school. Becoming a civil engineer was a good opportunity to combine the two together. Other than work, I always enjoy playing golf on the weekend and sometimes after work. I also enjoy going to watch St Kilda play in the AFL. Few of my life priciples are always be friendly to each other and work the best of your abilities.

Mia Vargas

Structural Engineer

I’ve always been drawn to how our communities are shaped – the roads we drive on or the buildings/houses we live and work in. I’m also curios of just by creating things, they can be both functional and beneficial for everyone. Ourside of work, I’m actually a bit of foodie even though I don’t cook myself. I’m also a bit of an adrenaline junkie but I’m afraid of heights. I always live by honesty, kindness and respect.

Bruce Peizheng Ni

Structural Engineer

I’ve always interested about engineering and science, with a strong focus on structural analysis, structural design, and numerical analysis. Beyond engineering, I have deep interest in mathematics and even does math for fun. One principle that I always live by is never stop learning, continuously develop both technical and soft skills. Honest the works that he does.

our process

Site Investigation

One of our Geotechnical Field Technicians will undertake an assessment of the site, together with establishing several test site locations to determine the soil profile. We encourage the five point testing to our clients for the best results.

Gathering of Information

Our field team sends the site information back to the office. This includes photographs, BAL assessments and Wind assessment. Depending on site conditions, soil samples are returned to our lab for specialised testing.

Reporting

In the office all the information on the site is prepared to go into the final report. In combination with our LIS, a thorough geotechnical report for the site is generated.

Engineering Design

Based on the geotechnical report, a footing design is undertaken together with any required structural elements like steel beams in the frame. Our engineers always draw whatever they design; fully skilled in AutoCad, they will follow your project to completion.

Build Inspections

During construction we are on standby to inspect construction. This allows your project to maintain its progress during construction and not be delayed.
